Services
GSDC has a unique portfolio of economic and community development services that allows it to take a comprehensive approach in service of a multicultural, prosperous and economically vibrant southwest Chicago. Through business services, community development, real estate development, senior housing, and housing counseling as a package, GSDC has a powerful set of tools to advance its mission among a diverse set of stakeholders.
The long-term community goals GSDC is working towards are increased commerce, fewer commercial vacancies, more jobs, and coordinated plans for large enterprises, such as Amazon’s purchase of Central Steel and the redevelopment of LeClaire Courts. This will create long-term community-level change for the entire low-income service area, generating higher incomes, increased employment rates, more jobs with a living wage, and a better quality of life for residents.
Business Advising
GSDC provides guidance and support to business owners and entrepreneurs to start, grow or transition their business. We are uniquely positioned to help our community through a variety of development services that include access to capital, business and marketing plan assistance, international trade, procurement, certifications, and licensing.

Community Development
GSDC offers residents, business, and property owners a variety of services that build capacity within the community and support the overall beautification of the Southwest Side of Chicago. We serve two Special Service Areas (SSA) and houses a Business Academy led and run by subject matter experts.

Housing & Financial Counseling
GSDC is a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Organization that provides FREE comprehensive housing counseling and education. We offer PrePurchase and Foreclosure Prevention counseling, Financial Literacy and Homeowner Resource workshops, and First-Time Homebuyers classes.

Real Estate Development
GSDC acquires, rehabs and repurposes property for community good. This includes identifying properties for redevelopment, completing feasibility studies, and securing financing, construction management, marketing, and rental or sale, either directly or with a development partner.

Senior Housing
GSDC provides high-quality affordable housing for seniors on Chicago’s Southwest Side. We own and manage close to 250 units at three locations: Churchview Manor Apartments located at 2626 W. 63rd St., Lawn Terrace Apartments located at 3214 W. 63rd Pl, and Churchview Supportive Living Apartments at 2626 W. 63rd Ste. 1.
